Zul Gurub

Firstly, I thought some of you would enjoy reading a little of the history of the place..

Deep in the mists of time the powerful Gurubashi Empire was torn apart by a massive civil war. A group of troll priests, known as the Atal’ai, summoned the avatar of an ancient and terrible blood-god named Hakkar the Soulflayer. He soon became an evil opressor demanding daily sacrifices and the strongest tribes began to turn on him, led by the Zandalar. They succeeded in vanquishing the God and routed his temple casting out and exiling the Atal'ai, but sadly the great troll empire collapsed upon itself. The exiled priests fled far to the north, into the Swamp of Sorrows, where they erected a great temple to Hakkar in order to prepare for his arrival into the physical world. They remained there, all but forgotten to the rest of the world.

In time, the Atal'ai had begun to have visions; their lord was hungry and ready to be awakened, but Hakkar’s physical form could only be summoned within the ancient capital of the Gurubashi Empire, Zul’Gurub. So, In small ragged groups, they began to make a pilgrimage to the ancient Gurubashi Empire capital. It had taken much time for the faithful to clear the ancient temple of Zul’Gurub and to begin the dark incantations which would raise the Bloodlord Hakkar from his deep slumber. The Soulflayer was called and he answered, it was not long before the Temple began to be populated by his offspring and other twisted creatures, which had either gotten lost and been unfortunate enough to be found by the residents of Zul’Gurub or had been bred there to aid the disciples in their work for Hakkar.

Once again the Zandalar banded the trolls of the land together and sent Troll priests, strong and mighty with primal magical powers were sent to defeat the Soulflayer. Each priest was a powerful champion of the Primal Gods— Bat, Panther, Tiger, Spider, and Snake, but alas proved not quite strong enough and fell under his power. They added to his already considerable hold within the temple and now they too had to be faced before Hakkar himself could be weakened sufficiently for any to try and defeat him. So as crocolisks seethed in the steaming waters, snakes, grown to huge proportions, slithered and patrolled the pathways and massive ugly berserkers lumbered around only recognising their own tainted blood and violently crushing any whose veins didn’t course with it.

Zul Gurub has been a fun instance for many for a long time. The Raiders of the Lost Orc decided to step back in time and revisit the old place for fun and also to give the mages the ability to 'turtle' mobs.. I mean come on? Who doesn't love a turtle?

So, we banded together and headed inside. Still the same overgrown yet stunning instance as ever, we headed off down familiar paths to meet the snakes, trolls and crocs again. It was a blast from the past and took some adjusting to the fact we now didn't need to rely on crowd control, the beserkers could no longer wipe us and the bosses weren't quite the challenge they had been. However, we were all getting rep for the Zandalar tribe and there was a lot of fun in seeing the groups of crocs being decimated in seconds, whislt we stopped at fishing spots for bait for Gahz'ranka. Sadly, the Hydra did not drop his book, but as we all had time we decided to go and kill something else.

That 'something else' became: High Priest Venoxis, High Priestess Jeklik, High Priestess Mar'li, High Priest Thekal, High Priestess Arlokk and Hakkar himself! All in well under two hours. It was a thoroughly enjoyable raid and allowed a mix of 60-70's the chance to kick back, have some fun and get to know each other better.

We are planning to make these a regular Saturday visit and probably will include the rest of the bosses next time. So consider this an open invitation to anyone from lvl 60 upwards who wants to come along and have a laugh, whilst maybe getting some shards and loot along the way.
